Dear Friends,
I'm delighted that you've chosen me to take pictures of your new baby! Please review this letter prior to our session so that you know how to prepare and what to expect, and don't hesitate to get in touch with any questions or ideas that you might have. I'm so looking forward to meeting you!
Who should come to the session?
Studio newborn sessions are for baby and two parents/caregivers. If you'd like to include siblings or additional adults, feel free to reach out about an at-home newborn session!
How to get there
Newborn studio sessions take place at Audience Studios at 1633 Connecticut Avenue right next to Larry's Ice Cream. My studio is on the third floor, so shoot me a text at 919-475-8548 when you arrive, and I'll come down to let you in and help you get up the stairs!
How To Prepare
Since you'll be coming to my studio, there are few things you will want to bring, but I promise to keep it minimal! I suggest selecting three outfit options for baby, and two light, solid-colored swaddle blankets that you love!
My favorite way to photograph tiny babies in studio is in a plain white or neutral onesie, or just in a diaper! If you do a diaper, a plain one without patterns is always nice. The most important thing, though, is that you LOVE what your baby is wearing, so I defer to you!
I do not use props or costumes when photographing baby in-studio--the photos will be minimal and soft, with the focus on baby.
Many parents often ask what they should wear themselves. Newborn photos look best when parents wear comfortable, casual clothing in non-matching, light neutral colors. If you feel comfortable, you will look great, and paler neutral colors reflect light softly and are universally flattering. It's also a good idea to bring an extra shirt for each adult, just in case of spit-up!
Prior to arriving, try and make sure that baby has a full belly! Of course, if they need a little something during the session, that's no problem at all.
What to Expect
When I first arrive at your home we'll spend a few moments getting to know one another, and then I'll gently guide you thorugh poses photographing baby alone, baby with both parents/caregivers, and baby with each parent/caregiver.
When I take pictures of the baby with family members, I will often gently suggest and model poses that will produce beautiful pictures. Feel free to interact spontaneously with the baby and one another!
What if Baby is fussy, hungry, or needs a change during the session?
That is totally normal! We will have time for snacks, soothing, and changes. I'll be there to help. It's just part of the experience!
What happens next?
Once our session is over, I will select the best images and hand-edit them individually. I typically deliver a finished gallery two weeks after our session. I will send you the link and password to a private online album, which will allow you access full-sized files. You will be able to select and download you 20 favorite images, with the option to purchase more, or to order fine art prints from my professional lab. As indicated in my contract, please do tag Anna Carson DeWitt if you post any photos from our session on Facebook or Instagram.
Thank you so much for inviting me to photography your family during this incredibly intimate, special time. It's really an honor, and I'll be there to support you every step of the way. Please let me know if there are any other questions that I can answer, and know that I'm looking forward to our session!
